has made this world a global village.
The rapid change in family structure, working pattern and public
mobility have resulted into a worldwide boom in tourism, proving
as one of the planet's major growth industries. Tourism sector
also claims to be the largest source of employment in the world.
The number of tourist has tripled over the past 20
years and the business they create is now worth nearly
US$ 5 billion a year. Every year nearly 650 million
tourists check in at the hotels, villas, apartments and
camps as per their preference.
WTO's long-term growth forecast Tourism: 2020 Vision
predicts that the tourism sector will expand by an
average of 4.1 percent a year over the next two decades
surpassing a total of one billion international travelers
by the year 2010 and reaching 1.6 billion by the year
2020. Similarly, World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC)
shows that the travel and tourism industry generates
US$ 4,944 billion in economic activity; approximately
11% to GDP worldwide; and employs 8.2% of total
world employment (207 million jobs worldwide).
